Five Years Ago Today

It was five years ago today that I lost my mother. It seems completely unreal to me that she has been gone for five years. I remember that the last time I talked to her I was on my cell phone by the pool at our apartment and my battery was about ready to die so I told her I would just talk to her when she got home. Of course we all know how that story ends. Did I tell her I love her? I can't even remember, but I hope she knew.
Sometimes looking at Ben is so hard because I will just be hit with the sudden realization that my own mother never got to see my son, her first grandchild. She was so desperate to be a grandmother and would have just adored Ben beyond belief. At least I know that Ben has one outstanding guardian angel looking out for him!

Raggedy Ann

Today we went to Barnes & Noble to hear a Raggedy Ann story and meet Raggedy Ann with Ben's friend Mikhai. Of course the story was way too long for Ben to sit still through so he ran around like the wild child that he is! When Raggedy Ann came out he was a little hesitant about going to see her alone, but was fine when Mommy carried him up to meet her. He even put his head on her and said "Awwww." It was too sweet!

Happy Birthday Me!!

So today is my birthday...yuck, I hate getting old! For my birthday we did a little shopping at Town Center, had lunch at Bravo and then I got a Spa Pedicure at Beauty Brands. The pedicure was so relaxing and made my gnarly feet smooth and soft! We finished up the evening by playing Mario Kart on our Wii.

This evening we gave Ben a Fla-Vor-Ice pop for the first time and he loved it! He started out eating it very neatly, but then as it melted he dumped it out on his picnic table and made a mess. Below are some photos of his first ever ice-pop-treat-thingy!

A Day At The Zoo

We decided to make a little trip to the Kansas City Zoo today. This was the second time Ben had been to the zoo, but the first time he could really appreciate it since he had just turned one the last time he went. He had such a good time looking at all of the animals. For nearly every animal that was unfamiliar to him (which was most of them) he made a "meowing" kitty-cat sound!

Without a doubt, the highlight of Ben's day was riding on the camel with Daddy. As soon as he got on he started laughing and squealing and continued on the whole ride! After the ride he bent down and petted the camel, which surprised me because he was terrified of the sheep!


Of course Ben also loved riding on the carousel with Mommy---we chose to ride on the Kansas City Royals lion! As soon as he saw the carousel he started jumping up and down in his stroller!


Mommy had the most fun watching the adorable little meerkats digging around and playing in their exhibit. Daddy and Ben had to drag her away and onto other animals!
We ended up having a really fun family day together and made some nice memories!!

House Stuff

As I'm sure everyone knows, we are in the process of building a new house. It is pretty exciting going through the whole process and getting to pick out all the details to make the house exactly how we want it. Below is a photo of the model home that ours will look like, with two major exceptions: 1) Our house will be a mirror image of this one, having a right side garage and 2) Our house will have a large section of stone on middle of the front.
We drive by the future home site fairly often just to watch the progress. This week they poured the foundation walls and now it has to sit and "cure" for a period of time before work continues. The builder told us that if it hadn't been for so much rainy weather it would already be framed!
Our excitement about the new house is somewhat tempered by the stress of selling our current home. We have until about December to get this one sold, but it would be nice to sell it much sooner and be secure in the knowledge that we will not be paying two mortgages! On that note, we have a standing offer to all of our family, friends and acquaintances that if they know someone looking to buy a home and they refer them to our house, we will pay the referring person $1000 after their referral closes on our house! Just think what you could do with an extra $1000!??! Maybe take a little vacation....a shoe shopping spree....a new television....the options are endless!

Say Cheese!

Today we took Ben to get his picture taken for 21 months and 4th of July (although we are a little early on the 21 months part!). He was running a temperature this morning so we debated about whether or not to take him, but since he was acting normally we decided to go ahead and keep the photo appointment. The pictures turned out okay in my opinion---not my favorite, but still some cute shots.

After the photo shoot we let him play on the lower level of Independence Center where he rode the carousel with Daddy. He loves riding on carousels, but gets scared when they don't move or go slow. As long as it is moving at a normal speed he is happy, but as soon as it slows down he is terrified---very strange in my opinion! As he was waiting for his turn on the carousel he was jumping up and down and neighing like a horse---it was too cute!

After the carousel ride we got a cookie and he said the word "cookie" for the first time and it was plain as day! He also saw a cookie decorated like Elmo and called it "Melmo."

Jumpin' On the Blog Bandwagon

Welcome to The Proffitt Family Blog, which is really going to be more of a Benjamin Blog (hence the URL)! Several of my friends have set up blogs and I enjoy reading them and keeping up with their families so I thought I might as well give it a whirl myself!

I can't promise that this will be an exciting blog, especially given the distinct lack of excitement that our lives possess, but I will do my best to entertain and inform our friends and family!

Today was a fun day, as Ben and I hosted a Rainbow Playdate with our friends from playgroup. We had lots of fun eating yummy, brightly-colored sweets and playing with our friends.
